winebox09 - Tom Settle 'Dried Plumes' C38 - SOLD OUT!

Tom Settle is known for playing guitar in a bunch of northwest psych bands (Serfs, Beach Fuzz, etc.), drums in some more (Former Bullies), and for not playing solo nearly enough. After a side of a split tape on Rayon Records and a side on the Winebox Solo Guitar box (which some people are saying tore up the rulebook by employing lapsteel...), this is a first proper full-length solo workout, and it's a beaut; ten tracks of warm, casualised 'Basement Tapes'/'All Things Must Pass' bathroom psychedelia that reminds at various points of Comus, Incredible String Band, Jakob Olausson, the Dead (especially the one where he covers 'Dire Wolf', straight up), and John Fahey. And the Simon and Garfunkel concert in Central Park.

Miniature edition of 26 copies is due to the remains of the old back door of 23 Kimberley Street from which it comes being mostly rotten. Each copy comes with hand multi-coloured and colour-charted shell by Lucy Jones and an iron-burned wooden insert and costs £8 including UK postage. Video here in case you need persuasion. Photogs can be seen at http://www.flickr.com/photos/wineboxpress.

I still have a couple of copies, the very last ones, of the last two releases, by Harappian Night Recordings and Whole Voyald Infinite Light, and also of the most recent two WVIL tapes on Lotus Birth (details here). Drop a line if interested in any.

winebox08 - Harappian Night Recordings 'TABASSUM' C46 - SOLD OUT!

Very psyched to be presenting the third release from Hunter Gracchus member Dr Syed Kamran Ali's turbo folk/eastern swing ethno-garage collage solo trip. 46 glorious minutes of banging percussions, vocal heaving, warped bootleg garage rock and some disarmingly straight-up riffs. Packaging was originally a set of stepladders, broken down and put back together with baker's twine, tacks and some flamboyantly camouflaged brown paper. Edition of 69 copies, cost is £7 including UK postage.

winebox07 - Whole Voyald Infinite Light 'Through the Darkness of Night/Through the Brightness of Day's Light' 2 x C35 - SOLD OUT!

Fifth full-length release from Lotus Birth/Winebox head chefs. Large double set from Winter/Spring 2010 of very wild guitar/guitar/vocal VU/Satwa psych. Package comes from a felled tree, angularly sliced, wood-block printed and affixed with screws, twine, marbled paper, elastic. Unseasoned wood, so give it a couple of years before burning. Edition of 44 copies, cost is £10 including UK postage.

Both releases available for now by emailing thewholevoyald (at) googlemail (dot) com or by visiting Manchester's newest and best zine/tape retailer Good Grief on the top floor of Affleck's Palace. Completists, don't worry, no. 6 is still slow-baking...

Compiled (II)

New Singing Knives compilation 'Thoughts From Screeching Lake' came out recently too, i think just as a download (from here) but might be physically manifest at some point too, hope so. Serfs track alongside fine likes of Harappian Nights Recordings, Alberorovesciato, Infinite Light, Pekko Kappi, Ross Parfitt, Dylan Nyoukis, a lot more....

Compiled (I)

Behind time again, this came out a couple of months ago on Psykick Dancehall Recordings of Glasgow, the second in their 3"/7" series of UK underground movements. 4 x 3" cds in a seven-inch sleeve that folds out in a concertina formation to reveal artwork by each of the eight shakers featured (Serfs art collab with LJ below). Edition of 140 copies (i think) available from the label.
